The Day I Decided to Bet on Myself. April 2018

There comes a point in your life when you realize that if you don't take control of your own future, someone else always will.

For me, that moment came in April 2018.

I wasn't unhappy because I worked hard. I've never been afraid of hard work.

I was unhappy because I knew I had more to offer than what fit inside someone else's job description.

I was tired of feeling like my ideas had to fit into someone else's vision. I wanted to create my own standards, build my own systems, and make decisions based on what I believed excellent healthcare should look like.

So, I made a decision "I did a thang!"

I was going to bet on myself.

Not because I had everything figured out.

Not because I knew every answer.

But because I believed in my work ethic more than I believed in my fear.

At the time, I had about eight years of healthcare experience.

Those eight years weren't spent in one lane.

They were spent learning.

Growing.

Observing.

Building.

I've worked in inpatient settings.

Outpatient clinics.

Private practices.

Healthcare organizations.

Insurance payers.

Medical offices.

Administrative operations.

Revenue cycle.

Credentialing.

Medical billing and coding.

Quality improvement.

HEDIS.

Risk adjustment.

Practice management.

Every opportunity taught me something different.

Do I know everything?

Absolutely not.

And I never will.

Healthcare changes every single day.

But I know enough to help people build better systems, solve problems, and avoid many of the mistakes I've already seen.

That has always been enough for me.

One thing I've always refused to do is lower my standards.

If I attach my name to something, I want it done correctly.

Not because I'm perfect.

But because the people we serve deserve excellence.

Every position I've accepted...

Every company I've built...

Every client I've worked with...

It has always been because I genuinely enjoy the work.

Money is important.

Let's be honest—it keeps the lights on.

But purpose keeps me showing up.

I've learned that when you truly enjoy what you do, the long nights become easier.

The setbacks become lessons.

The obstacles become opportunities to grow.

Betting on yourself isn't glamorous.

People see the success.

They don't always see the uncertainty.

The sleepless nights.

The sacrifices.

The moments you question whether you're making the right decision.

I've had those moments too.

More than once.

But every single time, I remind myself why I started.

I didn't start this journey to become the biggest.

I started because I wanted the freedom to build things the right way.

To create opportunities for others.

To improve healthcare.

To build systems that actually work.

To leave every organization better than I found it.

That mission hasn't changed.

If anything, it's become even stronger.

Looking back at that decision in April 2018, I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Not because it was easy.

Because it changed me.

It forced me to grow.

It forced me to lead.

It forced me to become the woman I was always capable of becoming.

And if there's one thing you'll learn about me through these diary entries, it's this:

I don't quit on myself.

I don't lower my standards.

I don't compromise my integrity.

And I will always choose growth over comfort.

Because at the end of the day...

I'll always bet on myself.

Always.
